FlightPlan: Awesome App for Pilots on iPhone and iPod Touch

FlightPlan app is a navigational software toolbox for pilots that simplifies common, yet time intensive, calculations performed with the E6B slide ruler computer. Only pilots can truly appreciate helpful features of this navigational application.

This awesome app was released two days ago, and although one clueless ’reviewer’ gave it only 1 star and cautioned against its use, this app turned out to be awesome when we tested it.

This app offers handy calculations, including common conversions, runway crosswind, true airspeed, wind direction and speed, density and pressure altitude, and more. You also get up to the minute METARs reports right from this application. The current set of calculations provided by FlightPlan are broken down into four categories: Conversions, Weather, Navigation, and Fuel.

Conversions: Celsius to Fahrenheit, Fahrenheit to Celsius, Nautical Miles to Statute Miles, Statute Miles to Nautical Miles, Knots to Miles Per Hour, Miles Per Hour to Knots, Millibars to Inches of Mercury, and Inches of Mercury to Millibars. Weather: Wind Direction and Speed, Heat Index, Dewpoint, Density Altitude, Pressure Altitude, Cumuliform Cloud Base, and METARs. Navigation: Course, Ground Speed, Wind Correction Angle, Heading, Ground Speed, Wind Correction Angle, Runway Crosswind, True Airspeed, Density Altitude, and Pressure Altitude. Fuel: Fuel Burn, Fuel Rate, and Endurance.
