July 17, 2008
Recently, Macgamestore and Pocketwatch Games introduced the release of Venture Arctic game (ESRB: E) for the Mac. It costs $19.95 and a demo is available for free. Following its predecessor Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa, this Arctic sequel combines educational value and entertainment.
The game allows Macintosh players to build and manage ecosystems of Arctic animals by interacting with the environment using “tools of nature”, such as the sun, snow, and wind. There are five different environments in the game, from an oil-rig off the coast of Svalbard, Norway, to a new pipeline disturbing the Caribou herds in the Alaskan level.
While the game maintains impartiality on environmental issues, players are left to discover for themselves the impact of global warming and deforestation throughout the seasons in their sim-ecosystems and the 22 animal species which comprise them.
There are twenty unique species in this Mac game, including Polar Bears and Orcas. Players can command 12 innovative forces of nature, with normal mode and a more sandbox style “kids mode.” Additionally, there are four difficulty modes, including climate change (global warming), deforestation, and extinction. You can try a demo of this game 0r you can order a full version for $19.95 directly from MacMegaStore web store.
