EA Plans to Publish RAGE Shoot-and-Run Game on Macintosh

July 15, 2008

RAGE Game for Mac from Electronic ArtsDuring its E3 press conference, Electronic Arts (EA) announced a new partnership with iconic shooter developer id Software. The publisher will be delivering RAGE, the new first person shooter game originally announced last summer. Built on the id Tech5 engine, RAGE will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC and Macintosh computers.

More information about RAGE will be available at QuakeCon 2008 in Dallas, Texas from July 31st to August 2nd.

QuakeCon is a free convention held every year in the Dallas, TX area. Thousands of computer gamers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to play with their friends on a giant gaming network, see the latest cool technology, and compete in a world-class tournament. Though mostly volunteer run, QuakeCon is sponsored by id Software. While the convention celebrates these games in particular, it is really a huge party for fans of computer gaming in general, from the hobbyist to the hardcore.

RAGE utilizes id’s Tech 5 technology, aiming for new levels of graphic presentation in artistic expression and fidelity. Gameplay consists of both shooting and vehicle racing, combining race track tactics and FPS (first-person shooter) action when you take to foot in combat scenarios.

“RAGE represents a new direction for our games,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. “RAGE is a shooter unlike any other, developed on our cutting edge new technology, and built to the exacting standards id is famous for. We’re excited to have the support of EA Partners to launch RAGE on the world.”

RAGE offers high-intensity battling and racing gameplay, offering the complexity of race track dynamics and tactics (including a monetary system where you can invest winnings from races to improve your vehicles and character) and the action of a FPS when you take to foot in combat scenarios.

“The RAGE publishing deal is the epitome of EA Partners’ mission: Provide the world’s best developers with access to the world’s best publishing resources,” explained EA Partners general manager David DeMartini. “The team at id Software is one of the best development studios in the world. We’re excited to work with id Software to give RAGE a blockbuster launch on the global stage.”
