Steve Jobs: This is the Biggest Launch of My Career

July 10, 2008

Steve Jobs Apple CEO Prepares for iPhone 3G LaunchUSA Today spoke with Steve Jobs about the impending App Store launch that is expected to launch at 9 am on Thursday, July 10th. Jobs revealed that 500 applications will be launching on Thursday, something he didn’t expect to happen. Jobs says 25% of the apps will be free, and 90% of the ones for sale will cost less than $9.99.

Initially, Jobs expected the App Store launch to bring 200 software offerings, but he ended up  with more than double that amount.  Apps will be available from such heavyweight contenders as Facebook, MySpace, AOL, eBay, Major League Baseball, Sega and Bank of America and tons of more companies. Whilst Apple has stated that they do not expect to profit from the store, it has been predicted by Piper Jaffray that the App Store could create a profitable marketplace with revenue exceeding US$ 1 billion dollars annually for the company.

“The reaction has been so strong,” he says. “So many developers responded.” With 500 programs launching internationally Thursday night, “This is the biggest launch of my career,”- says Jobs. Well, congratulations to Steve Jobs!
