Thousands of Movies Coming to Apple TV, Sooner than Ever!
April 30, 2008
Movie fans, listen carefully: you’ll get your favorite movies sooner! Until now, those of you who wanted to watch movies on cable pay-per-view or rental download systems like Apple TV, had to wait two to three weeks after the same movie was released to a DVD. But, things have changed!
During a conference call to discuss the company’s first-quarter earnings, Time Warner’s chief executive Jeff Bewkes, stated that Warner Bros studio will now release movies for video-on-demand systems on the same day they are released as DVDs.
And that means that Apple TV users will enjoy their favorite box office movies sooner. No more waiting few extra weeks! Saul Hansell, The New York Times reporter who originally broke the story, reported that he “spoke briefly this afternoon” to the president of Warner’s home video unit - Kevin Tsujihara - who assured him that Apple TV will soon have thousands of movie titles.
According to Hansell, Tsujihara told him that “we are moving to an era when there will be thousands of titles available to rent on systems like Apple TV.”
Considering that “the cable systems don’t currently have the capacity to offer that many movies,” Apple TV is on its way to do some serious competition to pay-per-view cable industry. Way to go!
