MacBook Pro Blank Screen Fix: EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1
April 21, 2008
Apple has released the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 to fix “several issues” and to “improve stability” of MacBook Pro computers. The update was apparently released to patch blank screen problems caused by a previous 1.5 firmware upgrade.
After the firmware is successfully applied to your Mac, your Boot ROM Version will be MBP21.00A5.B08 or MBP31.0070.B07.
You will be able to confirm the version of the Boot ROM installed on your computer using System Profiler. To complete the firmware update process, just follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the Installer closes.
Last week, several MacBook Pro users reported blank screens on the MacBook Pro EFI 1.5 firmware upgrade. The problem left users with machines that still operate, but display no image on the internal or external displays.
“The information posted to Apple’s Web site has not changed since the previous firmware update, which implies that this is simply a maintenance update to correct possible problems with the 1.5 update,” explained Macworld’s editor and long-time Apple enthusiast Peter Cohen.

Apple is starting to be more and more like windows with this upgrades, patches and fixes. The issue did not fix my problem, My screen is still black and given the amount of complaining out there about this blank screens, I see the words “class action lawsuit” . My computer was fine until the firmware update was downloaded from the internet. now I can not use it. out of warranty, should I still pay even though the problem was downloaded from Apple?
Riiiiight!

This happened to me………………how can you fix something that is already messed up with no screen? Im headed to the applestore tomorrow night. Luckily my MBP is still under warranty, but only by 20 days! I hope Mac is not charging people to fix this if the warranty is up. This is really really bad on mac to have an update crash a computer! Im not getting a good vibe right now…..
How do you download the fix if you can’t get anything on the screen to begin with?
