Five New Updates for Apple TV version 2.0.1
March 31, 2008
On Friday evening, Apple TV quietly updated to version 2.0.1. The latest update is not listed at Apple’s web site but it does bring some new features and enhancements to your movie rental box.
“Given the general ‘bug-fixiness’ feel of the update, it’s not too surprising that Apple isn’t trumpeting its glories. The update does, however, bring a few new features to Apple TV,” writes Christopher Breen for Macworld.
Users can obtain 2.0.1. Update by using Apple TV’s Settings, selecting General and Update Software command. Once you see ”Software updating” message, you will be presented with the choice “Update now” or ”Update later.” You should select “Update now” for changes to take effect.
According to Macworld, the latest update provides the following enhancements to your Apple TV functionality:
-
Users will now find a new “Genres” entry in the Apple TV’s “My Movies” screen.
-
Users can sync podcasts directly from the iTunes Store to the Apple TV. When the Apple TV is next synced with iTunes, downloaded podcasts will be synced to the unit where they’ll appear in the iTunes Podcasts area.
-
A new “Skip When Shuffling” option allows certain tracks in a playlist to be skipped altogether.
-
A new “Plus for Progress” option allows users to see just how far along they are in a movie, TV show or podcast by pressing the Apple Remote’s plus button to make a blue progress bar appear.
