March 23, 2008

Airport Express 802 11nApple’s New AirPort Express mobile base station with 802.11n and AirTunes is a tiny 6.7-ounce device packed with a built-in capability for downloading iTunes content, wireless printing, internet sharing, improved security, and Mac/PC compatibility.

802.11n is the next-generation high-speed wireless technology used as a standard in Apple’s entire line of AirPort base stations, Mac notebooks, iMac, Apple TV and Time Capsule.

Based on a comparison with Apple’s 802.11g products, AirPort Express 802.11n delivers up to five times the performance and twice the range of the previous model.

Both PC and Mac users have the ability to share a single broadband connection (DSL or Cable) with up to 10 simultaneous users who can also wirelessly share a printer that is connected to the USB port. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said:

Apple is leading the way with a broad range of innovative 802.11n base stations for almost any wireless networking need… From the small and portable AirPort Express, to AirPort Extreme for workgroups of up to 50 users and the new Time Capsule for automated backups, Apple customers now have more great ways to extend their wireless networks with 802.11n.

AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes allows you to stream music from the iTunes library on your Mac or PC wirelessly to any stereo or speakers in your home. But that’s not all! AirPort Express supports the Mac and PC compatible Bonjour networking technology allowing simultaneous wireless printing, as well as the internet connection sharing with up to 10 users at a time.

You can easily extend the wireless range of your primary base station by simply using AirPort Express as a wireless bridge. To do this, simply place AirPort Express in range of your primary base station and close to the area where you want your wireless connection. AirPort Utility for Mac and Windows will guide you through the process of setting up your own wireless network.

With its advanced security features and support for Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA / WPA2), 128-bit WEP encryption and a built-in firewall, AirPort Express safeguards data on networked computers. When you turn on encryption you can be rest assured that only people with the correct password can join your wireless network.

AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes retails for $99 and you can get it from Apple’s online store.
