Aperture 2.0: Professional Photography Editing Software

March 22, 2008

Aperture 2.0Aperture 2 has been designed to assist professional photographers in post production work to import, manage, enhance, and deliver photos in a single, integrated workflow that dramatically streamlines every aspect of digital photography.

Performance has been enhanced in Aperture 2 so it’s faster to import, browse and search large volumes of images.

There are also new imaging tools for highlight recovery, color vibrancy, local contrast definition, soft-edged retouching, vignetting and RAW image processing for fine-tuning images.

The new, all-in-one Inspector makes it easy to work in Full Screen mode, while the simplified browser enables users to quickly scan through photos and switch between viewing modes. The All Projects view gives photographers a quick visual overview of their entire library.

The Quick Preview tool allows users to browse RAW images in rapid succession without having to wait for files to load, and the Aperture library database has been re-architected to provide fast project switching and near instantaneous search results, even when working with extremely large libraries of 500,000 images or more. In addition, Aperture 2 significantly improves the performance of certain processor-intensive adjustment tasks such as noise reduction, and Highlights & Shadows.

In the Quick Preview mode, users can also edit a photo shoot by using Compare and Select tools, Loupe, multi-image zooming, and Smart Albums. Embedded previews let photographers caption, keyword and rate images as they are being imported, and with the ability to export images in the background, photographers can continue working while images are processed to JPEG, TIFF, PNG and PSD file formats. RAW fine-tuning controls let photographers perfect their renders on an image-by-image basis.

With built-in support for 16-bit printing and integrated print sharpening, Aperture 2 produces superior-quality prints, which can be designed and published with the help of the expanded book features. The software ships with a set of useful sample projects and 50 online video tutorials. You can purchase Aperture 2 for $199 from Apple’s online store.
